About Catherine KaputaCatherine_HiRes

Coordinating the And A Name team is Catherine Kaputa, award-winning author who has demonstrated her ability to create strong brands.

Catherine first learned brand strategy working with the creators of brand positioning, Al Ries and Jack Trout. She led the award-winning “I Love New York” campaign during its heyday at ad agency, Wells, Rich, Greene.

For over 10 years, she was SVP, Director of Brand and Advertising at Smith Barney, where “they make money the old-fashioned way, they earn it.” She where she supervised a range of naming projects through various mergers and was part of the global team working on the name change from Citibank to Citi. And she taught branding and advertising at New York University’s Stern School of Business.

At her brand strategy company, SelfBrand, Catherine has given branding presentations and seminars at a wide range of companies and organizations including Google, PepsiCo, Microsoft, Intel, Unilever, Samsung, Whirlpool, Citi, BNP Paribas, CommerzBank, Samsung, the U.S. State Department and others.

Among Catherine’s books is Breakthrough Branding, which won the Silver Medal at the Book of the Year Awards, business category in 2012 and outlines her approach to naming and brand strategy. You Are a Brand won the Ben Franklin Award for Best Career Book and was one of the top business books in China. It has been translated into over 11 languages.

Catherine has been recognized as a Top Global Guru in Branding in 2014 and has been featured in a wide range of media including NBC, CNN, ABC, Fox Business, Fortune, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today and The New York Times.

Now, Catherine has assembled a unique creative team that is outside of the conventional status quo establishment. And A Name offers a fresh, bold approach to brand strategy and naming that the programmed mainstream simply cannot do.
